Daniel Mendoza (July 5, 1764 – September 3, 1836) was the All England Champion in boxing from 1792-1795. He was of Sephardic or Portuguese Jewish descent and was nicknamed “The Star of Israel.” Mendoza played a significant role in the development of scientific technique in boxing, publishing the books The Art of Boxing and The Modern Art of Boxing, and holding frequent public exhibitions.
