After a severe storm, Brazel found his pasture littered with unusual debris that was unlike anything he had seen before. He gathered some of the material and brought it to the nearest town, Roswell, which was 75 miles away. There he shared his findings with local authorities. Brazel also gave an interview to radio station owner Walt Whitmore at KGFL. During the interview, Brazel described the debris in detail, sharing his astonishment at its strange properties, and having seen the bodies of “little people.” However, this interview never aired due to a directive from the FCC, which warned the station that airing it would result in the immediate revocation of their broadcast license. Shortly after the interview, Brazel was detained by the military. He was taken into custody by the Roswell Army Air Field and held in isolation for several days, during which time he was instructed to remain silent about what he had found.
